The Old Seven Mile Bridge sits out in the Florida Keys, stretching across the water like a relic from another era. Built back in the early 1900s, it started out as part of the ambitious Overseas Railroad, linking the Keys to the rest of Florida.
For a long time, Old Seven Mile Bridge bridge was a lifeline—connecting scattered islands like Pigeon Key and helping people travel up and down the Keys. When the railroad shut down, folks didn’t just abandon the bridge. They turned it into a road for cars, at least until a newer, sleeker bridge took over.
Now, some sections of the old bridge are still open, but just for walking, biking, or soaking in the scenery. The remains show off the kind of engineering people were doing a century ago, right along the coast.
